Dr. Marchisio coordinates long term strategic research and development projects in close cooperation with Product Management and Sales.  Previously, he served as Vice President of R&D for Data Analysis, and Vice President of Engineering-Text Analysis and Search for the InFact text analysis product line, which was sold in August 2007.  Dr. Marchisio has articulated novel ideas and software architectures in the areas of multimedia retrieval, bioinformatics, satellite image mining, video compression and mining, and computational linguistics, which led to seven recent US patents. He joined Insightful in 1996, helping with major consulting engagements in finance, leading Insightful's R&D effort with many agencies of the federal government, and subsequently serving as product manager and director of R&D. Prior to that, Marchisio held a number of management and technical lead positions with Active Voice (now a division of CISCO), Sierra Geophysics (Halliburton), and Gulf Canada. He also served as a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia. He holds a B.A.Sc. in Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics and Planetary Physics from the University of California, San Diego (Scripps Institute).
