Abstract:

Pharmaceutical companies accumulate large volumes of data during drug development. Secondary analyses of clinical trials data have become increasingly important. The challenge is how to efficiently turn these aggregated clinical data into valuable information. Can data mining tools facilitate knowledge discovery in aggregated clinical trials databases?

Drew Levy from Pfizer shares his data mining experiences using Insightful Miner to mine data from several Phase III trials. The application involves the identification and assessment of clinical and demographic predictors of adverse events primarily using ensembles of recursive partitioning regression trees.

Michael O'Connell, Director of BioPharmaceutical Solutions, will give an update on new features for the upcoming release of Insightful Miner 3.0 and provide context for the Pfizer hyperkalemia data mining project. Drew Griffin Levy, PhD, received his degree in epidemiology from the University of Washington. He currently works for Pfizer as Director of Exploratory Data Analysis in Global Medical Affairs.

Michael O'Connell, PhD, did his graduate work in applied statistics and has published more than 30 papers on statistical methods, data mining and healthcare applications. He currently heads the BioPharmaceutical Solutions team at Insightful Corporation.
