FREE Insightful Web CastsAttend one of our upcoming web casts to help you accurately discern the patterns, trends, and relationships hidden in the your data. S-PLUS: Working with Big Data, Part 3 Date: Thursday, July 20th Speaker: Peter Shaw, Senior Consultant, Insightful Corporation Register now for this Web cast In this series Peter Shaw will spotlight the new suite of S-PLUS Big Data objects and functions now available in S-PLUS Enterprise Developer 7. Users who are new to the Big Data capabilities of S-PLUS will learn how to rapidly apply these methods to their own data sets. These new functions can be applied both to Big Data and "regular" S-PLUS objects, so users can immediately begin incorporating the functions into their existing scripts and functions. Part three of this three-part web cast series will
We will examine common cases where older graphical and modeling scripts have run into difficulties when applied to large data sets, and demonstrate how to convert these scripts to use the new Big Data functions, a portion at a time. Intended audience: Anyone who uses S-PLUS and wants to learn more. Statistical Graphics for the Design and Analysis of Clinical Development Studies Date: Tuesday, July 25 Speaker: Michael O'Connell, Director of Life Sciences, Insightful Corporation Register now for this Web cast With current trends of diminishing drug pipelines, safety concerns and lengthy drug development processes, there is a critical need for efficiencies in drug development. The use of concise, compelling and standardized graphics can help create such efficiencies, while focusing attention on sound, scientific interpretation of clinical data. In this webcast I will outline a taxonomy of statistical graphics for the analysis of clinical data whereby the graphics are categorized via data and metadata typing. Applications of the graphics will be described through the statistical analysis of efficacy endpoints, adverse events, laboratory measurements and vital signs data. In each of these applications I will show how concepts of grouping, conditioning, metadata and drill-down; may be used to develop compelling graphical analyses for interpretation of clinical drug development studies. The statistical graphics are based on S-PLUS Trellis™ and S-PLUS Graphlets®; two of the graphics systems available in the S-PLUS® software. S-PLUS Trellis Graphics™ are useful in representing multivariate data and provide a mechanism for interpreting relationships between an efficacy or safety response and the many explanatory variables and dimensions of clinical data. S-PLUS Graphlets enable drill-down, brushing, and display of meta-data and are well-suited to exploratory analysis and clinical data review. Some of the reports discussed are produced using the S-PLUS Clinical Pack for SAS® Users, which enables the integration of S-PLUS Trellis and S-PLUS Graphlets into the SAS environment for production of clinical study reports and/or incorporation of graphics into SAS ODS output. Using Analytics to Uncover the Cause Instead of Just Treating the Symptoms Date: Wednesday, August 9th Speaker: Debbie Mayville, DHSoft, Director of Decision Sciences Register now for this Web cast What is a cause versus a symptom? Let's take the example of a person going to the doctor for a persistent headache. If the doctor just prescribes aspirin, then he is treating the symptom. If additional research uncovered the patient had brain cancer, then a different tactic should be applied to treat the cause of the headache. Predictive Analytics can be utilized to uncover root cause issues for companies so they can treat the problem not just the symptoms. For example, a certain telemarketing channel was experiencing very high attrition rates prior to completion of the required 12 month contract. Through data mining techniques, it was determined that this channel was pushing a very low price initial offering, which caused customers to pay more in the end for additional charges. Once the customer realized they were paying more, they cancelled. The churn was just a symptom of customer unsatisfaction from pricing mismatch. By uncovering the real cause of the high churn rates, the company created training programs on how to match pricing levels based on customer needs. This article will detail statistical techniques on how to uncover the root cause issues at your company. Instead of just fixing symptoms, you need to directly execute against the root cause issues to fix the problem and its key contributing factors. Modern Portfolio Management & Interactive Reporting Date: Tuesday, August 8th Speakers: Guy Yollin, Senior Financial Engineer, Insightful Corporation Register now for this Web cast Insightful’s financial suite of tools (S-PLUS, S+FinMetrics, and S+NuOPT) enables modern portfolio management techniques. When coupled with Insightful’s Dynamic Reporting Suite, one has an ideal platform for interactive analysis and reporting. In this webcast we will demonstrate a number of advanced portfolio construction, risk management, and performance analysis techniques and show how all of these tasks are greatly enhanced though an interactive process. Focus areas will include:
