S-PLUS 2000 Service Pack 3 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I tell if I am using the Standard or Professional version of S-PLUS?

A: Start S-PLUS and choose "About S-PLUS" from the "Help" menu. The first line of the window that appears will read "S-PLUS 2000 Professional for Windows" or "S-PLUS 2000 Standard for Windows". You need to download the correct Service Pack for your edition of S-PLUS.

Q: I have the license-managed S-PLUS 2000 for Networks.  Can I download the Service Release for this version?

A: No - no downloadable Service Pack is available for this edition, but a complete CD of Release 3 is available. Please request a CD to be mailed to you, and re-install S-PLUS on the server and clients.

Q: According to "About S-PLUS" in the Help version, I have S-PLUS 2000 Release 1. Can I use this Service Pack?

A: If you have S-PLUS 2000 Release 1 or S-PLUS 2000 Release 1a, upgrade first to Release 2, and then install the Release 3 service pack.

Upgrade from S-PLUS Professional Release 1 or 1a to Release 2

Upgrade from S-PLUS Standard Relase 1 or 1a to Release 2

Q: I can't download a 5.2 Mb file over my internet connection.  It takes too long, or the server drops connection all the time.  What can I do?

A: Please request a CD to be mailed to you, and install S-PLUS 2000 Release 3 from the CD.

Q: I have the Student Edition of S-PLUS.  Where is the Service Pack for the Student Edition?

A: There is no Service Pack available for the Student Edition of S-PLUS. You should continue to use S-PLUS 2000 Release 2.

Q: I have customized my S-PLUS extensively with new menu items, and I have changed many defaults for the graphics.  Will this update remove my customizations?

A: Yes, if you clicked Yes at the Update Message dialog at Step 5.

If you want to preserve your existing user interface (because, for example, you have created custom menus and toolbars that you want to continue to use), click No to skip this update step.  Note, however, that if you do not update your preference files, Insightful's changes to the user interface will not appear in your installation.

Q: In the Update Options dialog, the check box isn't filled in.  What should I do?

A: This occurs if the Service Pack application can't find an installed S-PLUS 2000 Release 2.  Start up S-PLUS and select "About" in the "Help" menu.  Note down the Release number (first line) and the Rev Date (last line).

If you have S-PLUS 2000 Release 1 or S-PLUS 2000 Release 1a, upgrade first to Release 2, and then install the Release 3 service pack (see above).

If you have S-PLUS 2000 Professional Release 2, but the Rev Date is 26 Oct 1999, first install this patch  and then install the Release 3 service pack.

If you have S-PLUS 2000 Release 2 installed, but the path listed in the "Select Update" dialog is incorrect, then mark the check box and click the Browse button to change the path to the S-PLUS 2000 Release 2 installation folder.  After verifying that the path is correct in the Select Update Options dialog, click Next.

If you have a version of S-PLUS not covered by the choices above, request a CD.

Q: In the Finish Update dialog, I get messages like "WARNING: warning wpt0015: Old File does not exist".  What is the problem?

A: The service pack may attempt to update files not found in your installation.  If this occurs, the service pack issues warnings that appear in both the Finish Update dialog and the patch.err file in your S-PLUS 2000 installation directory.  These warnings are harmless and can be safely ignored.

Q: Who can I contact if I have any questions about this Service Release?

A: Please email patch@insightful.com
