S-PLUS Essentials

Course Description

S-PLUS Essentials is a hands-on training course that covers a broad spectrum of topics from importing data to fitting statistical models. At the conclusion of the course the student will have a working knowledge of the syntax of the S-PLUS language. Both traditional and trellis graphs will be explored. In addition to function writing in the context of graphing and statistics, the course will present tools for organising and distributing your S-PLUS work. Whilst the material is presented here in the Windows environment, references to Unix are made where appropriate.

Course Objectives

Upon completing the S-PLUS Essentials course participants will know how to:

• Import and Export Data from a variety of sources
  
• Create and customise graphics from the GUI interface
  
• Organise and manage their S-PLUS session
  
• Have a working knowledge of the S-language, including functions and operators
  
• Programme Command Line and Trellis Graphics
  
• Write basic functions
  
• Carry out statistical analysis, including linear models, ANOVA, tree models and summary statistic

Course Outline

On the first day of the course, we introduce the graphical user interface, a powerful tool for rapid access to the many features of S-PLUS . The following days are devoted to the command line.
